How to Schedule

Currently I am scheduling by email so you can email me to set up a time to meet. For all of my new clients, I set up a 15-20 minute introductory call to make sure we are a good fit and to learn more about you. I ask that all new one-on-one clients fill out my application before we speak.

FAQs

How do you work?

I work in one-on-one or group formats. My one-on-one practice is focused on psychospiritual counseling and spiritual guidance. My group offerings in the past have included women’s circles, personal growth workshops, sacred healings, and longer-term trainings. I am offering a new group program called OINOS that you can find at www.evamedicina.com.

What psychological approaches and spiritual disciplines do you draw from in your practice?

My most recent body of training is in Somatic Experiencing, and I offer somatic-based trauma work in that modality. I also draw from transpersonal psychology, particularly from psychosynthesis, developed by Roberto Assagioli and taught by John Firman and Ann Gila, and from Jungian psychology. I also draw from a psychodynamic orientation, particularly newer attachment theory approaches developed by Daniel Siegel and David Wallin. Spiritually speaking, I draw inspiration and guidance from Eastern philosophies held principally by Buddhism; West African and Amazonian indigenous traditions; and, Waking Down as practiced by Saniel Bonder and Linda Groves-Bonder. I also draw from lines of thought from various luminaries such as Marianne Williamson, Alan Watts, and Don Miguel Ruiz among others.

How long are sessions typically?

Sessions last from 60 to 90 minutes typically. I also work in a longer session format if that best serves the client. Retreat-type work is also available and can be customized to suit your needs.

I meet with clients in person or remotely by phone or video-conferencing formats (Zoom or FaceTime).

For all clients, I begin with a consultation session of 90 minutes.

How many sessions will I need to complete my work with you?

Typically clients can resolve most of their needs in 10-12 sessions, meeting regularly. For clients who need help with more targeted challenges, four (4) additional sessions is often sufficient.

For clients who need in-depth trauma resolution work, the time needed to complete work with me extends longer than 12 sessions.

Most of my clients also return from time to time for “tune up” sessions that help maintain and even deepen psychological gains made.

Do you take insurance?

I can offer my clients super-bills for their insurance. I am not on any insurance panels so you must submit for reimbursement on your own.

What kinds of psychological issues do you treat? What kinds of clients do you work with typically?

I work with life issues that my clients have difficulty resolving on their own or through their existing support structures. Most often my clients struggle with early childhood wounding, life stress, breakups/separations/divorces, grief, existential pain, depression, anxiety, life purpose assistance, and major life transitions.

Do you treat “spiritual emergency” and other crises brought on by spiritual work?

Yes. My background in transpersonal psychology, study and training in clinical psychology, and spiritual development allows me to help client differentiate between spiritual emergency and spiritual emergence. Often what occurs is a combination of the two.

I am able to help clients understand psychological changes that may be occurring or have occurred due to spiritual practice. My work can help clients stabilize areas within them that may have opened due to such engagement.

Do you prescribe medication?

No: I am not licensed to prescribe medication.

Do you offer psychological evaluation services?

I offer psychological evaluation services to assist clients struggling with spiritual emergence/spiritual emergency who are unable to be understood by licensed psychologists and psychotherapists. I can work in concert with a licensed clinician as an expert to help your treating clinician understand the psychologically impact of spiritual development practices. In some cases, my assistance will recommend different therapeutic approaches and/or different diagnoses, which can help you avoid unnecessary or detrimental treatment protocols.

How does your work coordinate with the work of other healthcare and wellness providers?

I prefer to work in concert with other wellness professionals including, but not limited to, somatic/bodyworkers, nutrition and diet experts, fitness professionals, acupuncturists, and licensed clinicians.

I believe strongly that if you are committed to your healing and personal growth that the most effective approaches are always multi-faceted. I speak to my clients frequently about the power of the “healing web.” A healing web occurs when multiple forms of healing happen simultaneously so that more aspects of yourself receive positive attention.

Do you work with children and teens?

I have trained with children and teens, but I do not treat children at this time. I can be available to treat teens 13 years and up.

Do you work with addiction?

I believe there are many forms of addiction – addiction to thought and behavior patterns that can be self-harming and self-destructive. I am capable of helping clients work through underlying emotional blockages and traumas to create alternative pathways of thinking and behaving.

Having said that, I do not specialize in substance addiction such as alcoholism, opiate addiction, and the like. If you are seeking treatment for substance abuse and addiction, I would recommend my services as an adjunct to addiction recovery treatment once you are sober and committed to a path of sobriety.

Substance abuse is best treated with a combination of individual and group treatment approaches. Groups provide community, ongoing mentoring, and social support for those transitioning out of addiction. Such social support is essential during that time as you will need to develop relationships outside of your previous addictive patterns and spend time in environments that do not abuse substances.

Severe substance abuse and addiction often requires an in-patient treatment, or a residential stay, so that you can be completely removed from environmental cues that would prompt you to use. In these treatment centers, medical care can be administered as needed to support your physical body during your recovery.

I do not offer full-time residential care.

Do you work with severe mental illness?

I do not work with any psychiatric disorder that presents with psychosis. However, I work with various forms of trauma, including posttraumatic stress disorder, and more normal challenges of depression and anxiety spectrum disorders.
